We climbed a dormant volcano today!

Today has been one of the best days so far!  After a lovely breakfast of fresh 'Baguette Traditionalle' and coffee we climbed to the top of Puy de Dome.  This is the highest volcano in the Massif Central and stands at 4831 feet above sea level.  The views from the top were quite spectacular and in the early winter sunshine it was warm too.  We took about 2 hours to get to the top and half that to come back down although overall we were out walking for 6 hours!

On top of the volcano is an Old Roman Temple and the remains of an even older Gaelic site.  On the way back down we ended up walking through the forest which extended the trip a little!

It looked so easy from here!

Plenty of snow in the woods

Kate avoiding the very icy road

Half way up and feeling good! (this is the face our daughter used to make when she was 3 years old!)

Breathtaking isn't it?

I'm not sure whether to call this one a 'Max Wall Foon' or a 'Navy Seal Foon' haha......

Looking North to a few other volcanoes (also dormant
 of course!)

The remains of the Roman Temple of Mercury on the top

Bracing !

'It's MY volcano now!'

A Volcano foon.....

And a Forest Foon...... (sorry, just can't help it!)
